Direzione Scientifica - Junior Scientific Officer

The AIRC Foundation for Cancer Research, the largest charity funding Cancer Research in Italy and the Eurozone, is actively seeking a Junior Scientific Officer (SO) to join the scientific directorate

The Foundation supports scientific oncological research in about 100 Research Institutes and Universities throughout Italy, to fulfill its mission to find a cure for cancer.

The Scientific Directorate is composed of a Peer Review Office and a Post Award Grant Management Office.

  • The first is responsible for ensuring that fellowship and grant applications are fairly and expertly reviewed, so that funds donated to AIRC are allocated to support the most competitive research.
  • The second ensures that funds are used according to guidelines and supports researchers throughout the duration of the grant for administrative and management issues.

Team members jointly ensure that scientific progress is reached via planned activities and that results are timely shared within the scientific community and to the public.

The Junior Scientific Officer will be offered to join the Peer Review Office to:

  • Prepare guidelines for applicants, reviewers, and grantees;
  • Recruit international scientists to assist the peer-review process;
  • Organize and run on-site peer-review meetings;
  • Assist applicants and grantees throughout the application and funding scheme;
  • Monitor the scientific progress and the impact of funded research;
  • Contribute to meeting organization and scientific finding communication to the public.

Job Requirements

Candidates should hold an M.D., Ph.D. or equivalent training in the scientific field and up to 10 years of ensuing work experience in oncology or oncology-related fields. The candidate should provide evidence of international exposure, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, work habit and integrity, and an outstanding command of English. Experience in science communication to the public, Intellectual Property management and/or Artificial Intelligence tools will be favourably considered.

Work Location: Viale Isonzo 25, 20135 Milan (MI). Office presence required, with 10 days of remote work per month.

Contract Type: A full-time contract is offered (40 hours per week). Thet type of contract will be evaluated based on experience within the "CCNL Commercio, Terziario, Distribuzione e Servizi" category.
